The best part about being a photographer is that I get to celebrate and experience milestones with my clients. Sometimes I even know about moments before they do! I’m the one who gets to hide and photograph a secret proposal, the one who knows about the wedding date before friends and family, I’m the one who knows if little blue or pink confetti is going to explode around my clients while they anxiously await to find out the sex of their baby!
Sometimes I’m lucky enough to actually be there when a brand new baby opens their eyes and takes their first breath. Being involved in the journey a newborn takes from their first breath to their celebratory smash cake is enchanting. It’s magical watching a sweet smudge turn into a giggling vivacious baby, the amount of growth a baby does in one year? It’s a little shocking.
Time goes by so fast, it’s like you blink your eyes and a year has gone by and you’re left to think what did you do with the time? Maybe it’s just New Year ponderings but as someone who doesn’t have children I can still see the growth that marks the passing year in my siblings faces and when I look back through the photos I’ve taken of my clients it is even more prominent. Photography allows us to remember the chubby cheeks, gap toothed grins and awkward pre-teen years. There’s a reason why #FlashbackFridays and #ThrowbackThursdays are so popular. Photography freezes a moment of time that you can cherish forever. There’s so many great aspects of being a photographer but I love how much clients, especially parents, want to capture it all.
